Chicago Family Photographer: Melissa Marie Photography

This family is one of the reasons I’m still addicted to Facebook. From our mutual love for kids in animal clothing, pumpkin spice lattes, a general love for all foods that we really shouldn’t eat,  awesome under the radar music, and an appreciation for sarcastic banter, their social posts and status updates have me laughing out loud to myself as I’m scrolling through. Of course that then makes time with their family a blast. So awesome to see you guys!

I want to be more like them. For one, they are mighty good lookin’ ? But something not as external, is their generous spirit. Who gifted their wedding photographer a massage? They did! (Which by the way, genius gift for a sore bodied photog!) Then who brought a Starbucks gift card to the mini session for their working mom of an infant? They did! Seriously, so incredibly thoughtful and generous these family is. Beautiful outside obviously, but equally if not even more within.

I photographed Tricia & Alan’s wedding well…We’ll just say quite a few years ago. (:

I love when I get to photograph my bride & groom’s families. Especially when they are this cute!! Sure, they’re obviously adorable! But their little personalities are the best part. Whenever “mom” and “dad” would have a kiss, big brother Ben would try and kiss his little sister. How cute is that!? Got a note from them saying they hope to make this a tradition. I think this may need to be one! Have loved reconnecting with so many of my couples from over the years!

St. George Greek Orthodox Church Chicago Wedding: PAT + ADRIENNE

It’s was sort of a backwards elopement. That is the main wedding was quaint in the backyard of a lake house in New York. And the small wedding was in the big city. Now it wasn’t in elopement in that everyone knew about both ceremonies. But I loved the premise behind why they did it this way. And so did they! They kept saying: “This is so fun!” “I wouldn’t have even noticed that at the first wedding, it goes by so fast.” Sure, it’s fun to wear your wedding dress again, and have totally polar opposite location vibes for photos: Lakeside or big city. But the reason they did it this way, and the reason I think more people ought to think about doing it this way is that they wanted to have an orthodox ceremony where their grandparents could attend. So at the first wedding in New York, they partied. They danced. They had what you would more so anticipate the events on a wedding day to be. That then allowed the Chicago wedding to be relaxed. We hit the big Chicago landmarks for photos with no rushing. The ceremony involved no nerves. And most importantly, they got to just sit and have dinner at local restaurant with their family. No going from table to table. They just got to sit with grandparents and soak up time together. Doesn’t that just sound refreshing? Loved it! And so glad they did too! Congrats Pat & Adrienne!

I love this family! I could easily exchange the “this” for “my” with them. We aren’t blood related. But I’m not even blood related to my actual family! (PSA-adoptions rocks!) Have you ever had someone in your family or that you know really well visit you at work? It’s refreshing right!?  That’s how I felt about these gems coming to the mini sessions I was doing. They’re goofy, kind, flexible, and helps that they’re pretty darn good lookin too! Love these guys!
